Daily Scripture & Questions

Haggai 1-2 Haggai’s messages come in 520 BC between August and December. The people had left the temple in ruins and focused on their own homes. What was the result of such mis-prioritization? What was the response to Haggai’s message? How did God encourage the leaders and people in chapter two? The ultimate fulfillment goes way beyond Haggai’s time and points to the Messiah (see 2:8-9, 23).

Family Devotions-Scripture & Questions

Read Haggai 1:1-15. What were the people doing that dishonored God? How do you keep first things first? What are the words that describe the people’s good response (beginning with verse 12)? What did the Lord do?

Biblical Prayer Focus

Psalm 90:12-17 “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

Ask that you and those for whom you pray might have a right perspective on life—on this earth it will be short. Request that such a point of view would help you make wise decisions all of today. Ask for a satisfying sense of God’s covenant-faithful love. And that you would be able to do something today that would be established as substantial in the Kingdom of God.
