I was born in Battle Creek, Michigan and grew up in nearby Marshall. I attended Calhoun Christian School in Battle Creek and graduated in 2011 in a class of five students. Two weeks after graduation, I married my wonderful wife, Rachel, and we moved to Anderson, Indiana to attend Anderson University where we both pursued degrees in Elementary Education. After a year there, we transferred to Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. It was after 3 ½ years in the teaching program that God showed me that classroom teaching isn’t my forte. I then took some summer classes and graduated with a degree in General Studies (I’m not sure what that is either). From there, I worked until Rachel graduated with her teaching degree in December of 2015.
After graduation, Rachel took a long-term substitute teacher position in Indiana while I sought God’s direction for our future. In this process, Rachel contacted her family friend, Trevor Wickes, who had experience in camp ministry, which I thought might be my calling. Instead, Trevor offered me an opportunity to be an intern with Powerhouse for a year. I prayerfully accepted, and we moved to Big Rapids a few months later. We worked at Cran-Hill Ranch the summer of 2016 until I started with Powerhouse and Rachel started teaching 1st and 2nd grade at St. Peter’s Lutheran School.
Though I have been a “Christian” since a young age, it was in college that Jesus captured my heart and I fully surrendered my life to Him. Jesus is my best friend, and serving Him with every day of my life is my only goal. I love to share the wonder of our glorious new relationship with God with everyone I meet. I love to pray for people and see God work wonders in their lives. My heart’s desire is to see the students of Powerhouse realize their identity in Christ that God has freely given them, and then live their lives from that reality—fully sold out to Jesus and powerfully advancing His Kingdom every day of their lives. I’m very excited to be working with Powerhouse again this year and see what God is going to do! Whatever it is, it’s going to be amazing!
In my free time, I love making things with my hands, archery, hunting, fishing, backpacking, basketball, playing guitar and drums, fixing things, building fires, blacksmithing, learning new things, and hanging out with my wife (and soon-to-come son or daughter).
