Family Devotions-Scripture & Questions

Read Zechariah 7:1-14. The people had a habit of fasting in grief for the fall of Jerusalem, but was much of it real fasting? What did they do with their ears and their hearts? Since they would not listen to God, what would God not do (see verse 13)?

Biblical Prayer Focus

Psalm 58:6-9 “O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!”

This prayer of cursing reminds us to give to God those folks with whom we are frustrated or angry; to trust Him to bring about justice, even as we ask for protection from their attacks. In prayer, leave room for the vengeance of God as you release any bitterness or guile that has accumulated in your heart.
