Daily Scripture & Questions

Nehemiah 8-10 Jerusalem’s wall is finished, and the people realize that God is behind it all.  They now turn to God’s Word as Ezra, along with others, reads it and helps them to understand its meaning (8:8).  What were the evidences of a great revival taking place?  How did the people respond to the Word?  What were the key history lessons in chapter nine?  How did these lessons lead to the “firm covenant in writing”?  What were critical obligations of this covenant (10:28 ff)?  How would these be examples for us today of true repentance in our lives?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions

Read Nehemiah 8:1-12. How did the people respond to the reading and teaching from God’s Word? How do you show respect for God’s Word? Why is responding to God’s Word a mixture of crying and joy? For what were the people weeping? Why do their leaders tell them to rejoice?

Biblical Prayer Focus

Ephesians 1:15-23  “For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Pray for the spirit of wisdom and of revelation and eyes to see. Ask that you would deeply know the hope of God’s calling, the rich inheritance Jesus has provided for you, and an awe-filled sense of the resurrection power that is “toward us who believe.”
